Which is the best lining to use?

This will depend on the application. Hanes Fabrics manufactures and distributes over 100 different drapery lining products.  If there was that one magical product that would fit every need, our job would be a lot simpler.  Applications will vary as will consumers expectations of quality, durability,
and appearance. We recommend that you consult with your window coverings manufacturing professional to help you make the right lining choice. Choosing a lining from Hanes Fabricswill assure that you are on the right path.

How long should your drapery lining last?

With proper care, the lining should last as long as the face fabric.  The lifespan of drapery lining will vary depending on the lining chosen, the quality of care given, and the weather and other environmental conditions in your area.  Remember that one of the main reasons for lining draperies is to provide a sacrificial layer to protect your investment in the more expensive decorative fabrics used. Relining draperies is much less costly than replacing them

What is the best lining to use for swags and other fancy treatments?

It is a matter of preference.  We recommend a high end cotton sateen since it adds a little weight and stability to the swag.  This allows the swag to hold its shape better than using a lesser-blended fabric. Another good product to consider is Thermaform or Outblack® Lyte. These one pass foam products reduce the amount of sunlight able to penetrate through the swag even more than the 100% cotton sateen.  Generally speaking, a Sateen weave is more pliable than a plain woven fabric, and suits flowing style window treatments better.  We offer a variety of linings constructed with sateen weave base fabrics in both 100% Cotton and Polyester / Cotton blends.

How do you prevent flaring of draperies requiring blackout lining?

A combination of proper pleating, tacking the lining to the face fabrics along the bottom hem, and corner weighting will solve most flaring problems.

What is the difference between 2 pass and 3 pass, why should I use one or the other?

The 2 pass foam products have 2 layers, or passes, of acrylic foam.  Typically, the bottom layer is black and the top layer is white or beige.  The black foam will show through the fabric creating a gray appearance on the back of the fabric.  This product is used as a lining with the gray side to the inside of the drape.  The 3 pass products have 3 layers of foam – white, black, and white or beige on top.  The 3 pass product can be used as a lining or as a free standing drapery panel.

Why does the selvage differ at times?

The selvage can vary depending on the type of loom used to weave the fabric.  It is common to see either a fringed or tucked selvage on many of our products.

In order to offer the best quality and price we purchase from a variety of qualified mills. By being flexible with loom type we are able to supply the highest quality fabrics at the best value for our customers.

What's the insulating R factor of this lining?

As with clothing, layering fabrics and creating air spaces will improve the insulating value of window treatments.  Adding an interlining will enhance this performance. To accurately evaluate, the impact of any individual product or combination of products, factors such as the size of the window, and the method of installation used will affect the results, and vary in each home.

How long does it take to process my credit application?

Upon receipt, Credit Applications are immediately put into our verification process.  Those with an accompanying order are given priority treatment as we know how important on time deliveries are to you.  The accuracy of the information provided, and the cooperation of the references given can often contribute to undue delays.  Company policy dictates that new businesses, those in business less than 6 months, will be dealt with on a “Cash Before Delivery” or “COD Cash” basis.  For these accounts and others who prefer, we will accept prepayment by most major Credit Cards.

At Hanes Fabrics we take pride in the quality of our service and strive to ship all orders within 72 hours.  Larger orders and custom orders often require additional production time. Delivery time on these orders is minimized, as most of our products are made in house at one of our three finishing facilities.

What is the return policy on damaged linings, and how long does it take to receive a credit?

If you need to return one of our linings, a credit will be issued upon inspection of the returned product.  This credit will generally appear on your account within 30 days of receipt of the returned goods.  Our products are inspected and cased to protect them during shipment.  Once a shipment is received and signed for, it is out of our control. Obvious damage occurring during transit must be noted on the Freight Bill upon delivery.  Concealed Freight Damage needs to be reported to the delivering carrier immediately on discovery, usually within 24 hours of delivery.  Claims for these goods are settled by the carrier

Will using Classic Napped replace the need to use interlining?

Classic Napped was designed to be used to enhance the appearance of custom drapery treatments where interlining is not currently used.  As a nice benefit, we have found that using Classic Napped in tandem with our other interlining products, it makes handling these multiple layers easier by “joining” the lining to the interlining. This speeds the sewing and fabrication, as well as making dressing of your finished products easier.

Should I use a 100% cotton lining or a blend?

There is not a single best lining to use for every application. It will vary depending on several factors: the type of treatment, the face fabric, and personal preference.
